A Program to Help Métis Homeowners with Home Repairs!

Energy Werx Calgary are proud to assist Metis homeowners with their home repairs to understand how their homes use energy and what upgrades are available to help improve their home’s energy efficiency. You need to fill out an application and get it approved before renovations can begin. This must be done by a citizen of Metis Nation of Alberta who meets the good standing criteria. Up to $20,000 in financial assistance available for home repairs and renovations.

All interior and exterior repairs and renovations are included such as:

  •       Windows & doors
  •       Plumbing & electrical
  •       Roofing & siding
  •       Painting, counter-tops, and cabinets
  •       Essential landscaping like fencing, grading, sod, and raised garden beds
  •       Exterior doors and windows
  •       Insulation
  •       Mold remediation
  •       Water and sewer systems
  •       Other repairs that affect the health and safety of the residents.

For clients that receive funding, it will appear as a caveat on their property for 5 years, after which the funding is forgiven and the caveat removed. If the client sells the home before the 5 years is up, the client will repay a prorated portion of the funding plus 6% interest.

Q. How do I apply? Application forms are available on the website: or can be emailed to you.

Q. What if I have applied for my new MNA citizenship card and have not yet received it? We would accept and hold the application but only process it upon receiving confirmation that the applicant qualifies for citizenship from the MNA.

Q. Can I use the $20,000 to build my own home? Yes. You can use it as a down payment on the purchase of a home. We pay the seller’s lawyer the amount of the down payment you qualify for. The funding cannot be used to purchase building materials. 

Q. Can I still apply for the program with no Métis citizenship card? No, You must have an MNA citizenship number to qualify for these programs.
